In the snack, beer, and other consumer-packed goods business, many distributors follow a list pricing strategy. They set a list price for their products, and the sales price is often based on a flat discount applied to that list price. For instance, if the list price is $10, the company may offer a $1 discount for a limited time. NetSuite can handle such pricing scenarios using customer-specific price levels or item pricing. However, by default, NetSuite only displays the net price on the order. This can make it challenging for customers to understand the discounts they are receiving. Also, tracking discounts and rebates in the general ledger can be difficult unless you have deployed the NetSuite Rebate or Promotions module.
During a recent project with a client, we made a simple modification to the Sales Line form. This customization enabled the net off-per-unit discount to be visible in a separate column from the list price on the sales line. This minor change significantly improved the relationship between our client and their end-user customers. Now, customers can easily see and confirm that the discounts they are receiving are in line with the agreement. Prior to the modification, end-user customers were frequently contacting customer service to inquire about discrepancies, but these types of calls have been eliminated.
